Hye-Jin Choi has led after every round in Shanghai. She was a Wednesday selection, tipped before the first tee, and she goes into Sunday still in front. BoyleSports now make her 20/23, odds-on to win her first LPGA title. Two players can realistically stop her: Ruoning Yin, two shots back, and Amy Yang, one shot back.
Buick LPGA Shanghai, backed before round one
Choi was backed at 22/1 outright for a point each way, and at 16/1 as top Asian for half a point each way. The reasons were three top-eight finishes this season, including a third at the Mizuho Americas Open, and a player still waiting for a first LPGA win who looked capable of coming from behind to take it. She has done it differently, leading every round. Both bets are live going into Sunday, and the question is what to do if she is caught.
Buick LPGA Shanghai, win only
Yang is the answer. She is a single shot off the lead and has the experience of the two chasers. She showed a return to form earlier this year, then went hit and miss, but one shot back with a round to play is a good place to be, and 10/3 is a good price against an odds-on leader. BoyleSports offer no each-way on this market with only three players in contention, so it is a win bet only.
Yin is two shots back and cannot be dismissed, but she is the one to leave out. She is young, this is a home tournament in China, and the pressure that comes with it is considerable in a final round, with a leader in front of her who has not given up a lead all week. Yang has been in this position before and has less to carry, so she is the better player to side with against Choi.
Yang covers the Choi bets. If Choi holds on, the outright pays far more than the one point on Yang costs. If Yang wins, the win bet returns 3.33 points, and Choi’s each-way parts still pay if she finishes in the places. Everyone else is too far back to be a serious threat.
Prices are BoyleSports’ on Saturday 17 October, after the third round. One point in all, settled on the record.
