Two of the five came close. Doug Ghim was one behind going into Sunday and finished second, and Jacob Skov Olesen was tied fifth with a round to play and missed the places by a shot. The other three finished well outside the places.

Doug Ghim 22/1 · 1pt e/w · +4.50

Bank of Utah Championship · 2nd at 24 under

Ghim shot 65, 62, 64 and 69 to finish second on 24 under, two behind Austin Smotherman. He was one behind going into Sunday and four clear of third place, so it came down to the two of them. Smotherman closed with a 68, while Ghim three-putted the 13th from 30 feet and missed a six-foot par putt on the 15th. The place part paid five places at 1/4, a return of 5.50, and the win part lost one point, so the net was +4.50.

Jacob Skov Olesen 22/1 · 1pt e/w · −2.00

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship · tied 11th at 13 under

The biggest miss of the week. Skov Olesen was tied 52nd after round two, shot a 63 on Saturday to move up to tied fifth, four behind Casey Jarvis, then closed with a 73. The terms were ten places at 1/5, and tied ninth finished on 14 under, so he missed the places by a single shot. A place would have put the week in profit.

Hennie du Plessis 80/1 · 0.5pts e/w · −1.00

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship · tied 35th at 9 under

Du Plessis opened with a 67 to sit tied fifth, two behind Michael Stewart. He was tied 17th after rounds two and three, seven behind Jarvis going into Sunday, and a 74 in the last round left him tied 35th.

Eric Cole 40/1 · 0.5pts e/w · −1.00

Bank of Utah Championship · tied 65th at 8 under

Cole was tied 26th after round one and tied 24th after round two, then a 73 on Saturday dropped him to tied 61st. He finished tied 65th, 18 shots behind Austin Smotherman.

Johan Edfors 9/1 · 0.5pts e/w · −1.00

Reignwood Legends Championship · tied 14th at 1 under

Edfors was tied eighth after the second round, eight behind Jean Hugo, but a closing 75 left him tied 14th. Hugo won his first Legends Tour title on 13 under, three clear of Matthew Cort.

Left out

Matt Fitzpatrick, the one name left out of the Dunhill preview, finished tied 17th on 12 under, outside the ten places.

The week

The four tips that missed cost five points between them, and Ghim’s place returned 4.50 of it. That is how each-way outrights tend to run: most tips miss, and one place at a big price pays back several of them. This week it covered all but half a point.

Prices and terms are those posted on Wednesday 30 September. Each-way stakes are per part, so the five bets were seven points in all, and all five are settled on the record. The original tips and reasoning are in the preview. The next card goes up on the home page before Thursday’s first tee.
